The ground floor of this recently-built townhouse is almost completely open-plan. The entrance hall space had to be made to work effectively so fitted cupboards with sliding doors provide lots of storage and we created a separate dining area in addition to the breakfast bar in the adjoining kitchen.

The kitchen itself is compact but practical, with additional storage under the breakfast bar. Off white gloss units, stainless steel and a light blue glass worktop all reflect light and increase the sense of space.

Bi-fold doors which open fully to the garden and the rooflight increase the sense of space by day and night.

Layered, dimmable lighting creates an practical yet atmospheric scheme. Efficient extraction and ventilation were also built-in to keep the open plan space fresh and fragrant.

Solid oak flooring and a limited colour palette throughout the space creates continuity. Custom-made wine storage becomes a feature in the living area.
